THE WEEKLY ANCHOR
11.24.10 by Seth Dekkenga – “Ungrateful”
In our world today, especially our western culture, it is too easy to take things for granted. It is too easy to be ungrateful. The most common things I take for granted every day are family, my home, a bed to sleep on in my home, clean running water in my home, and food to eat. There’s not much scripture that deals with being ungrateful or taking things for granted. There is, however, a lot about being thankful. Even more than our physical needs, we need to live in thanksgiving for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who was crucified for our sins and was resurrected by the same power that lives in us. Below are a few verses on being thankful. If you have some extra time, I’d encourage you to look up and read the passages in context to where they were taken.
“Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done” (Philippians 4:6). “Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts” (Col. 3:16). “Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart” (Col. 4:2). Let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe” (Hebrews 12:28). “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus” (1 Thess. 5:18). “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!” (Psalm 136:1). “I burst out in songs of thanksgiving” (Psalm 28:7). “Enter his gates with thanksgiving” (Psalm 100:4). “Songs of thanksgiving will fill the air” (Isaiah 51:3).
