A Brief History Of Chiropractic
The first recorded chiropractic adjustment was performed on September 18, 1895, by Dr. Daniel David Palmer. His patient was Harvey Lillard who was a janitor working in the same building as Dr. Palmer in Davenport, IA. Mr. Lillard had complained of hearing problems for over 17 years after falling down a flight of stairs. Dr. Palmer examined his spine and discovered a lump on Mr. Lillard's back. He suspected that a vertebra might be out of place. Dr. Palmer then adjusted the vertebra. After several treatments Mr. Lillard's hearing was restored. The first patient was not treated for an ache or pain but for a life changing condition.
