Agriculture is the regions mainstay. The Belle Fourche Irrigation District has approximately 59,000 acres of irrigated cropland. Farmers produce feed for the livestock ranchers raising cattle, sheep and buffalo. Wildlife thrives on the prairies and in the ponderosa pine forests of the region. There are whitetail deer, mule deer, elk, antelope, turkey, game birds, coyote, fox, mountain lion and even some big-horn sheep in the Black Hills .

The towns of the area provide all the amenities of city living as well, but with a flair of the old west.
