"My uncle, Gene, is a pretty good guy. He's taken my brothers, my cousins, and me on dozens of adventures. We've climbed mountains and repelled and dove off train bridges. We've also tobogganed and rode bikes and camped and explored caves with tiki torches. We've gone 130 miles an hour in a car (in Germany, of course, perfectly legal). I think he's a good lawyer, but I've only seen him in action once - at a Supreme Court argument. I was kind of surprised. He's usually very laid back, but he stood up to a couple of the judges and seemed to know a lot more about what was going on than the other lawyers.

In the United States anyone regardless of age, national origin, or mental competency may apply for a patent. Personal representatives may even apply for patents in the name of dead or insane persons. About the only requirement is that the person be the true inventor. In some other countries corporations may apply for patents, but in the U.S. only individuals may apply.
