Avera Transplant Institute is the largest and longest-running transplant center in the state of South Dakota, providing excellent care to patients across the region. Known for it's robust program, both in size and scope, Avera Transplant Institutehas celebratedits 500th solid organ transplant, in addition to over 300 bone marrow transplants to date.
Avera Transplant Institute conducted its first kidney transplant in 1993, and launched the region's first and only bone marrow transplant program in 1996-a program that provides lifesaving operations for patients with leukemia, lymphoma and other life-threatening diseases. In 2003, Avera added the pancreas transplant program.TheAvera Center for Liver Disease, featuring South Dakota's only transplant Hepatologist, opened in 2007.

Receiving a bronze medal, the Avera Transplant Institute is the only transplant program in South Dakota and one of only two transplant centers in the Dakotas and Minnesota to earn awards.
